Abstract
At the Microsoft Build event in September 2011, Microsoft unveiled the future
development direction for Windows 8 and its plans for entry into the tablet market with its new Metro apps. There were a couple pieces of very good news that came out of the conference.
- One is that Microsoft has a very compelling entry in the table market.
- The second is that developers are going to be able to leverage their existing .NET skills to develop Metro apps since they can be built with either XAML & C#/VB.NET/C++ or with HTML5 & Javascript. Make no mistake though, Windows 8 introduces plenty of changes for developers.
With the introduction of new touch-enabled Metro applications, developers will be creating applications based on the new WinRT (Windows Runtime) instead of building them on top of .NET and the CLR as is currently being done.
In this session we will step through the process of creating a new Metro app and discuss the pros and cons of the different techniques for doing so. I imagine you have plenty of questions like what does this paradigm shift really mean for me? Will my current skills be useful? How about existing code, will it still run? Attend this session to learn the answers to these questions and bring along any others you may have.
Please feel free to bring a friend, or more. Come prepared to ask questions, and have lively discussion
